About

How this directory works

A free listing of UK locksmiths based where they work, organised by town, county and by the work they take on, with direct contact details and no lead fees in the way.

What we do

We list locksmiths based in UK towns and counties, alongside plain information about what each kind of locksmith job involves and what it usually costs. You ring the business directly on the number on its page, which is always its own.

Who counts as a locksmith here

A business is listed when lock work is the trade it leads with: lockouts, locks, keys, car keys or safes. A glazier or door fitter that also changes locks is not listed as a locksmith; a locksmith that also does a second trade is listed, and its page says so. Shops that only cut keys are not listed.

Why every listing is local

A town page lists a locksmith as based there only on evidence: an address in the town, a place line naming it, or the town's own dialling code. Numbers beginning 03, 05, 08 or 09 are never listed, because they can be answered anywhere. National networks that answer centrally and send a subcontractor are listed under their own name and marked as networks, and never count towards whether a town has a page.

Memberships and qualifications

UK locksmiths are not licensed: anyone can trade, in every nation of the UK. Where a business is an MLA Approved Company, a Buy With Confidence member, a Which? Trusted Trader, an Auto Locksmiths Association member or UK SERMI approved, and a person has matched it against that body's own public search, the listing says so with the date and a link. Where a business says it holds a qualification, the listing says so in its own words. What to ask a locksmith before you hire.

What we do not do

  • We take no commission and sell no leads. Listing is free; Premium is an optional paid extra for locksmiths, and it buys tools, a verification check and badges, never a position.
  • Position is never for sale. Listings are ordered by how recently they were checked and how complete they are, and by nothing else.
  • We do not rank or review businesses. There are no scores and no verdicts here. We publish facts about who trades where and what they take on.
  • We do not copy ratings or reviews from other platforms.

How listings get here

Businesses are found through public sources: local search listings, businesses' own websites and social pages, and Companies House. Each listing records where the business is actually based and why we think so, and each page shows when it was last checked. Lead-generation sites that present a national operation as a local business are not listed.

What the badges mean

Not yet claimed by the owner. The listing was built from the business's own public details and checked on the date shown, but the owner has not been in touch with us yet. It says nothing about the locksmith. Claiming is free.

Owner verified (paid check). The business pays for Premium, which includes a check, and a person confirmed with it, on the phone number or email it already publishes, that it runs this listing and that the details are current. The badge shows only once that check is done, and comes off a year later unless the check is repeated. It is not a judgement on the work.

Premium (paid plan). The locksmith pays £12 a month plus VAT for tools: their own price list on the profile, photos of their van and work, and when they are available. It includes the yearly verification check; the Owner verified badge appears once that check is done. It is not a quality mark.

Neither paid badge changes the order listings appear in. Order is set by the date we last checked a listing's public details and how complete those details are, and nothing a business pays for touches either.
