Terms

Terms for locksmith plans and listings

Listing on locksmiths.trade is free for every UK locksmith. These terms cover claiming a listing and Premium, the one paid plan, at £12 a month plus VAT. You accept them with a tick box before you pay, and the date you did is kept.

Who we are

locksmiths.trade is operated by locksmiths.trade, 7 Princes St, Edinburgh. To reach us, use the contact form or write to the address above.

Listings

A listing is free, claimed or not, and stays free. Corrections are made without charge and a request to come off the site is honoured. The order of listings on any page is how recently each listing's public details were checked and how complete they are, and no payment affects it.

Claiming a listing

Claiming is free. It lets you receive customers' enquiries by email, each with the customer's job card, see your monthly figures and buy Premium. A claim is accepted when your email address is on your own website's domain and that website names your business and shows its published phone number, or after a person checks it against the details your business publishes.

If the business changes hands

A listing has one owner. If someone else claims it, a person checks with the business on the phone number it publishes before anything changes. If the listing moves to a new owner, any Premium on it is cancelled at once with no further payments, its price list, availability, photos, note and badges are removed, the previous owner is signed out and told, and enquiries sent to the previous owner are never shown to the new one.

Premium

Premium, £12 a month plus VAT: an enquiry inbox in your dashboard, your price list with a price for each customer's job on your profile, up to 24 photos, your availability, a note above your enquiry form, the Premium (paid plan) badge, and a yearly verification check, with the Owner verified (paid check) badge once it is done. Enquiries by email are free on any claimed listing and are not part of Premium. Premium covers one listing. If you run two listings, for example in two towns under two names, each needs its own Premium for the paid tools to show on it.

The verification check

A person rings the phone number your business already publishes, or emails the address it publishes, never one sent to us, and confirms that you run the business and that the listing's details are current. If you give us an MLA, Buy With Confidence, Which? Trusted Traders, Auto Locksmiths Association or UK SERMI membership, we look each one up on that scheme's public register and note what we found. If you send a DBS certificate or your insurance certificate, we note that we saw it and its date, and nothing else from it. None of them is needed for the badge. The Owner verified badge appears once the check is done, not when you pay. It lasts a year from the check, and each year the check is made again. It does not check the standard of your work, and the badge does not say it does. Renewing Premium pays for the next check; it does not extend the badge by itself.

Buying as a business

Premium is sold to locksmith businesses for use in the business, and you confirm that, and that you accept the terms, with a tick box before you pay. Because you buy for your business, the 14-day cancellation right that consumers have does not apply; you can still cancel at any time as set out below.

Price and VAT

Premium is £12 a month plus VAT, and it is the only paid plan. VAT is charged on every payment at the standard rate of 20%: Premium is £12 a month plus VAT, which is £14.40 a month including VAT. A price change is emailed to you at least 30 days before it applies, and you can cancel before it does.

Payment and automatic renewal

Stripe takes payment in advance. Premium renews automatically every month until you cancel.

Cancelling and refunds

Any time, from Manage billing in your dashboard. It takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and the plan is not renewed after it. There are no refunds for part of a period except where the law requires one.

When Premium ends

The badges come off at the end of the paid period. Your price list, photos, reply note and availability stop showing at once, are kept for 90 days in case you come back, and are then deleted. Enquiries by email carry on, and each is deleted 12 months after it arrived. Your listing stays where it is.

What you add to your profile

Your price list must be the prices you actually charge, and must say truthfully whether they include VAT. Your availability must be true while it shows: change it when it stops being. Photos must be your own pictures of your van, your workshop or work you did, with the customer's agreement where their home can be recognised: no stock images, no other firms' work, and nothing that shows how a lock or door could be opened. A before and after pair must be the same job. A person sees every photo after it is uploaded. We may take down anything that breaks these rules, and we will tell you when we do.

Enquiries and customers' details

An enquiry carries a customer's contact details and job card so you can reply. Use them to answer that enquiry and to do the job, and for nothing else. The price a customer sees for their job comes from your own published prices and is labelled as yours; you agree the total with the customer before work starts. We take no lead fee and no commission, and we do not book work or take payment between customers and locksmiths; any arrangement you make is between you and the customer.

We accept no liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we accept no liability for any loss arising from the site, the listings, enquiries, estimates, Premium or any locksmith's work, whether the loss is direct or indirect, and including loss of profit, business or goodwill. We do not promise any number of views, calls or enquiries, or that the site will always be available. Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Ending an account

We may close an account that misuses customers' details or misrepresents the business, refunding any unused paid period. You can ask us to delete your account through the contact form: cancel Premium first, and we then delete the account, its settings, photos and claim, and the listing goes back to unclaimed.

Complaints

Tell us through the contact form or by post. A person replies within 14 days.

Changes and the law

A change to these terms is emailed to paying locksmiths at least 30 days before it applies. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
